St. Michael 4-star QB Gunner Rivers picks up first SEC offer

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — It was a busy day of recruiting along the Gulf Coast for SEC coaching staffs. Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M made it a point to stop by St. Michael Catholic to check in with sophomore quarterback Gunner Rivers.

Sources tell WKRG Sports Director Simone Eli that Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan met with Rivers on Tuesday. Auburn quarterbacks coach Kent Austin and wide receivers coach Marcus Davis were also in Fairhope to see the sophomore star and Texas A&M defensive line coach Tony Jerod-Eddie was on campus, well.

Rivers, a 4-star recruit for the 2027 class, picked up his first SEC offer from Auburn.

In just two years, Rivers has recorded 7,024 passing yards and 70 total touchdowns, with just 10 interceptions. Gunner is the oldest son of former NFL quarterback star Philip Rivers — who just finished his fourth season as the Cardinals head coach.

St. Michael advanced to the Class 4A Semifinal this past season, before falling to the eventual champs Jackson. The Cardinals were ranked 2nd in the state in the final poll.
