MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile City Council on Tuesday approved spending $855,000 to purchase the old Trinity broadcast station on the West I-65 service Road, News 5 has learned.

Council members indicated the building could be used for a new animal shelter, but that decision has not been made.
According to previous reports, the current animal shelter was built in the late 1960s and was meant to house only 87 animals. The shelter’s website indicates it is now home to more than 150 animals.
The shelter is currently slated to be built on a construction site on Montlimar Drive near Cottage Hill Road, but increases in construction costs prompted the city to look at alternative options, like the Trinity building, according to previous reports.
