Spring Hill College to celebrate French roots with Soiree sur L’Avenue

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Founded in 1830 by French-born Roman Catholic Bishop Michael Portier, Spring Hill College is the oldest Catholic college in the Southeast. The school will honor that French heritage and raise funds for its Presidential Leadership Fund with its first Soiree sur L’Avenue.

The event, which will feature French-inspired culinary dishes, will be April 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the historic Avenue of the Oaks, an SHC news release said.

“Spring Hill College has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly two centuries,” said Dr. Mary H. Van Brunt, president of SHC. “This celebration not only honors the College’s storied history but also highlights the French influence that has shaped our mission.”

The event will benefit the college’s Presidential Leadership Fund, which provides resources for programs and initiatives that “further Spring Hill College’s mission of fostering academic and social responsibility,” according to the release…
