MOBILE, Ala. – No. 15 Troy fell 11-7 to South Alabama at Stanky Field on Saturday night, evening the series at 1-1.
South Alabama starter Mitchell Heer held the Trojans in check after allowing two runs in the first inning. Troy took advantage of a Jimmy Janicki two-out walk with back-to-back doubles by Sean Darnell and Steven Meier, but Heer responded by cruising for six straight scoreless frames before Blake Cavill hit a solo home run in the eighth. The righty finished with five hits, three runs, three earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.
Troy righty Noah Edders pitched 2.2 innings with two hits, three runs, three earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts. South Alabama scored four runs in the third inning, all with two outs after Edders retired the first two hitters.
