Accused Dauphin St. shooter refuses to appear for bond hearing

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — A judge denied bond for the accused gunman who police say shot indiscriminately at passing cars on Dauphin street Tuesday morning. One car was hit. No one was injured. Roderick Alexander is charged with reckless endangerment and shooting into an occupied car. The 43-year-old refused to appear remotely from Mobile Metro Jail in Judge Zack Moore’s court Wednesday morning for his bond hearing.

“We can confirm that the subject was experiencing a mental episode, and that is what caused him to randomly shoot at the public, unfortunately,” Officer Roderick Miles.

Alexander, who is a convicted felon, sought treatment in 2016 at the VA clinic in Biloxi, according to a letter his probation officer wrote to the court. It states Alexander struggles with mental illness and alcoholism stemming from his military service…
