BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Dashcam video from January shows the end of a pursuit of a murder and burglary suspect. The tires of the sedan have already been spiked after the driver allegedly tried to outrun police on I-65.

The video shows the deputy move in, and what looks like a rear-end collision. As a gun is thrown from the window of the car, the deputy deploys the Grapple System, the latest technology being used by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office to end pursuits. “It shoots out a net, it wraps the tire and we are able to bring that vehicle to a stop,” said Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery.
So far this year, the Grappler has helped apprehend two murder suspects and an alleged drug trafficker.
The Grappler is attached to the front bumper of a patrol vehicle, and many factors determine if it will be used, including the speed of the chase. A supervisor makes the final call. “The system is extremely effective, and we are proud we have it and look to adding some more in the future,” said Lowery…
