Prichard water board reports overflows, issues water advisory

PRICHARD, Ala. (WKRG) — Heavy rains Tuesday caused multiple wastewater overflows in Prichard, resulting in a water advisory.

According to a Prichard Water Works and Sewer Board news release, the following areas are affected with the following estimated overflows:

  • 198 Wood Street, 9,000 gallons, Chickasaw Creek
  • 1305 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, 9,000 gallons, Chickasaw Creek
  • First Avenue at Owens Street, 9,000 gallons, Toulmins Spring Branch
  • 824 Seminary Street, 54,000 gallons, Toulmins Spring Branch
  • 830 Strauss Avenue, 71,000 gallons, Toulmins Spring Branch
  • 823 North College Street, 36,000 gallons, Toulmins Spring Branch
  • 705 Sample Street, 27,000 gallons, Toulmins Spring Branch
  • 1205 West Prichard Avenue, 54,000 gallons, Toulmins Spring Branch
  • 1612 Main Street, 63,250 pounds, Gum Tree Branch

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels advises area residents to take precautions if they come into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated because of the overflows, and make sure they wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.

Additionally, residents should avoid using Chickasaw Creek, Gum Tree Branch and Toulmins Spring Branch for recreational activities because of the overflows, the release said.
