Local nonprofit locked out of social media accounts worries about its future

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) — A newly established local nonprofit with a mission to rescue birds says its social media accounts have been hacked. The founders say they’re locked out, and they’re worried all the resources they’ve poured into their sanctuary could be lost as a result. T.J. Palkovic and Jodi Steely co-founded Styx River Parrot Rescue in Baldwin County last year.

“We’ve ceased to get any calls whatsoever. Since this has happened, we’ve had no new birds coming in since this has happened, because the majority is coming through Facebook,” said Palkovic.

He says they were just starting to get an online presence and donations when their Meta accounts were hacked three months ago. He says the platform suspended their Facebook and Instagram accounts. According to GuideStar, the registered non-profit has $2,270 in assets…
