Mobile eyes fewer traffic lights, more two-way streets downtown

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Driving around downtown could soon be a much different experience.

The Mobile City Council next week is scheduled to vote on a pair of contracts to convert some one-way streets into two-way roads and to replace some traffic lights with stop signs. Nearly two dozen lights, including flashing lights at some intersections, would be removed under a $1.09 million contract with McElhenney Construction Co., LLC.

A $3.38 million contract with Asphalt Services Inc. authorizes turning St. Anthony, St. Joseph, Warren, Dearborn and Jefferson streets from one-way to two-way roads…
