Tracking higher heat into the weekend

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — Today is the first day of summer as the solstice will occur at 9:42 p.m. making it the longest day of the year. After our sunrise at 5:49AM in Mobile, our sunset will be at 7:57PM, giving us a little over 14 hours of daylight!

As we round out the workweek and move into the weekend we settle into a more typical pattern. This change is due to a sprawling ridge of high pressure that is shifting over the eastern US. Given the abundant moisture we currently have in place, we’ll still have to dodge daily (40%) showers and thunderstorms.

Outside of any wet weather, expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies today. It’ll definitely feel like the first day of summer with highs in the low to mid 90s! Add in the humidity and heat index values will run closer to 105 with a chance some spots surge closer to 110. Most storms will fade after sundown with lows falling back into the 70s…
