Ceremonies planned for two major buildings at former Civic Center site

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Two big building projects mark a major milestone today. Ceremonies are planned today to cut the ribbon on the new Army Corps of Engineers Mobile headquarters and a new City of Mobile Parking garage.

It’s rare to have this much attention and celebration for what’s essentially a government building and dozens of parking spaces–but it’s a step forward for a site that hasn’t had much life outside of construction since the old Civic Center was torn down.Later today, members of the Army Corps of Mobile, Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mobile will gather to cut the ribbon on both projects. We’ll also get our first look inside each of these big new building.buildings

The parking deck itself costs around $38 million. It also has more than 1,000 new parking spaces.There’s plenty of room at least right now while we wait for what else is happening at this site…
