Grand Bay celebrates 51st annual watermelon festival

GRAND BAY (Ala.) – The people of Grand Bay are beating the summer heat and celebrating the Fourth by biting into some cool, juicy watermelon.

For 51 years, the city of Grand Bay has celebrated a fan favorite summer fruit, watermelon, and this year was no different. Volunteers cut and served over 300 watermelons at this year’s festival.

“The watermelon here, they’re ice cold,” Jannett Shore, a festival volunteer, said. “I’ve helped to deplete the supply some myself, and they’re so sweet and so delicious.”
