Daphne PD using new trailer-cams to fight crime

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) – The Daphne Police Department has added a new tool to its crimefighting belt. Solar powered trailers with cameras are now set up at strategic locations. The trailers were purchased through a grant from Homeland Security aimed at making soft-target areas more secure.

These eyes in the sky will give Daphne Police a big advantage in fighting crime. Each trailer is equipped with a 360-degree camera and a bullet-cam which can focus on specific areas. Police are able to monitor the cameras in real time and inform responding officers.

“Supervisors on each shift have login information and there’s a phone app where they can log in and see what’s going on. If there’s an incident happening, they can get a live view as can dispatch, so they’ll be able to advise officers as things unfold in real time,” explained Daphne Police Chief, Brian Gulsby.

One camera trailer is placed at Trione Sports Complex where the city just held its 4th of July celebration and the other is at Jubilee Square Shopping Center. The one at Jubilee has already helped police solve a property crime where a vehicle left the scene of an accident. Chief Gulsby said the trailers will be moved to other locations as needed…
