Daphne man out on bond charged with drug trafficking after Bay Minette chase

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) – A Daphne man out on bond on a 2024 drug trafficking charge was arrested Monday on multiple charges including drug trafficking after a vehicle pursuit Sunday in Bay Minette.

On Sunday, a Bay Minette police officer tried to stop a vehicle on Williams Street for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as Demyrius Leshay Atchison Jr., refused to stop and led police on a pursuit through several neighborhoods before he ran away carrying a large black trash bag, according to the Bay Minette Police Department.

Atchison escaped, but a K-9 found the trash bag which police said contained 5.5 pounds of marijuana. Officers also found a large quantity of ecstasy pills inside the vehicle, authorities said.

On Monday, police obtained a warrant and Atchison was arrested later that day at his Daphne home. Charges include drug trafficking, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and felony attempting to elude…
