MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Mobile woman is accused of leaving her newborn, who tested positive for drugs, at the hospital after giving birth.
According to investigators, 34-year-old Raven Jones was arrested July 10 and charged with child abandonment and chemical endangerment of a child.
Mobile County Chief Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Susman told FOX10 News Jones left the hospital without filling out the proper paperwork.
“This case has nothing to do with any safe haven box. The child was birthed in the hospital and was abandoned in the hospital,” Susman said. “When a child is born, and they have certain narcotics in their bloodstream, and they’re not pursuant to any type of prescription to the mother. You know, you’re talking about heroin, cocaine, certain opioids, that sort of thing. Often the parent, the birthing parent can be charged with chemical endangerment.”…
