Alleged drug ‘kingpin’ in Mobile gets new lawyer after previous one removed from case

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A federal magistrate judge Friday appointed lawyer Jason Darley to take over representation of an alleged drug “kingpin” after removing his previous attorney for submitting a court filing containing “nonexistent” case citations generated by artificial intelligence.

Glennie Antonio “Little Man” McGee is accused of running a multimillion-dollar drug distribution network that used children as couriers, and then laundering the money through real estate in Mobile, cars and high-end jewelry. Darley also will represent McGee in a second federal indictment alleging that he participated in a conspiracy to defraud a government COVID-19 relief program.

McGee, 41, his wife and his sister-in-law went on trial in June in the drug case, but U.S. District Judge Terry Moorer declared a mistrial after concluding that the length of the trial might jeopardize the availability of some of the jurors…
