Pricey potholes: Dramatic rise in damage claims in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — Mobile’s pothole plagued streets are hitting drivers’ wallets. Records NBC 15 News requested show 79 people in the last 19 months have claimed nearly $60,000 in damages due to potholes. The number of claims was almost five times higher so far this year compared to all of last year. Melissa Mills is one of six people who filed claims this month related to potholes on Knollwood Drive.

“I’m about $40 bucks into Lyft and $380 into tires,” said Mills. “It’s not a wide road. You don’t have anywhere to go, because if you go right of that pothole, you’re going to hit the curb.”
