Mobile shelter extends hours to keep homeless people out of the heat

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile’s Waterfront Rescue Mission helps those without a home every day. With scorching temperatures sweeping South Alabama, a place for them to cool down is essential.

“The biggest thing is AC,” Mobile Waterfront Rescue Mission’s Regional Director of Development and Public Relations Eric Lindmark said. “To get them off the street, out of the heat, because spending 10 minutes out there drains you. I could only imagine being out there for hours at a time.”

That is why the shelter decided to extend its daytime operation hours.

“On a normal day, our day center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. And it’s for men, women, and children, but in extreme heat, weather, we are open. We don’t close,” Lindmark said…
