MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mobile man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a United States Department of Justice news release, 57-year-old Edward Cordell Burks Jr. was sentenced to 92 months for possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon.
In November 2024, Mobile police officers responded to a local hospital where two people were being treated for gunshot wounds, according to court documents. After speaking with the injured people and witnesses, Burks was listed as a suspect in the shootings.
The shooting took place on Spring Hill Avenue, which was secured as a crime scene. Officers recovered three bullet casings and footage from a local business’s surveillance that recorded the shooting, the release said. On the surveillance, the shooter appeared to be Burks.
A “be on the lookout” or BOLO was issued for Burks. Two days later, a Mobile police officer on his regular patrol saw Burks walking within a mile of the crime scene. The officer stopped Burks and found a loaded firearm in his waistband, according to the release…
