Mobile County considers takeover of Strickland Youth Center

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — New oversight and control of the youth detention center in Mobile may soon be on the horizon. The Mobile County Commission could vote at its next regular meeting on Monday to assume supervision and administration of the Strickland Youth Center and its employees. Currently, that responsibility falls on Presiding Juvenile Court Judge Edmond Naman, who says the arrangement is problematic and should have changed years ago.

“It never should have happened that way. That was just a creature of 1972 when that system was created,” said Naman.
