18-year-old charged with beating death of her grandmother in Irvington

IRVINGTON, Ala. (WKRG) — An 18-year-old woman is accused of beating her grandmother to death in Irvington on Saturday. According to a news release from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Jailen Lupton has been charged with murder and burglary in the death of her grandmother, 70-year-old Diane Trest.

Deputies responded to a medical emergency on Beverly Road on Saturday. The news release says Trest was found unresponsive in the front yard with head trauma and a mallet near her.

Deputies say witnesses told them Lupton beat Trest then “forced her way into her home, pushed [the witness] down, and demanded car keys, claiming she had just killed her grandmother.”

The Mobile County Jail log indicates Lupton was booked into Metro Jail at about 1 Sunday morning…
