4th case of West Nile virus confirmed in Mobile County, health department says

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Another case of human West Nile virus has been confirmed in Mobile County, health officials announced today.

The Mobile County Health Department says this marks the fourth time this year that the mosquito-borne disease has been reported in the county.

West Nile virus is a form of encephalitis. The risk for encephalitis spread by mosquitoes is highest from August through the first freeze in the fall, according to the MCHD. Officials said Vector Services will increase spraying and conduct door-to-door surveys in the immediate areas, and inspectors will try to attempt to trap adult mosquitoes and test them for the presence of WNV.
