Mobile gets its own Monopoly game – did your favorites make the board?

About a year ago, a company announced plans to make a Mobile-themed version of Monopoly and invited local input. The resulting custom game was unveiled Thursday evening at the historic Malaga Inn.

“When we chose to do Mobile as one of our editions, we chose it because of you guys’ rich history, your vibrant culture, and your Southern charm,” said a representative of Top Trumps USA, the company that developed the game set under license from Hasbro. “When you open the board, you’re going to see places you love to visit, neighborhoods you go to, places you go eat … From the birthplace of Mardi Gras to the iconic waterfront, every square on this board tells a story of Mobile.”

The new game board puts “Mardi Gras” and “Bienville Square” as the premium Park Place and Boardwalk properties. The four railroad spots are filled by The Bankhead Tunnel and “Take the Causeway” (both referencing Nutria Rodeo Trading Co. T-shirts), plus an airboat on one side and Airbus on the other. The two utility spots bear the brand of Knockout Inspections…
