Mobile, Baldwin County law enforcement trains to keep schools safe

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala (WKRG) — With the first day of school right around the corner, school resource officers from Baldwin and Mobile Counties spent the week in specialized training designed to keep students safe and prepare for emergencies.

“These guys this week, they learned a lot about mental health, mental health awareness. Today, they’re learning how to do medical, tactical, medical response, medical response to some type of school shooting or violence incident right there, but they learned a lot of other stuff too,” Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery said.

The program focuses on everything from first aid to trauma care and active shooter responses. Deputies say it’s not just about safety, though; it’s about building connections in the community.
