MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Voters will decide a mayoral race that now is less than a month away, but former judge Spiro Cheriogotis continues to lead the other campaign – the money race.
When Cheriogotis snared retiring Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s endorsement in May, he got more than kind words. It opened up a network of donors who had supported the mayor’s previous campaigns.
Campaign finance reports reflecting July fundraising have not yet been filed, but heading into the month, Cheriogotis had raised almost as much money as his three competitors combined.
That includes a $50,000 cash donation and another nearly $13,600 contribution in “in kind services” from One Mobile PAC, a political action committee with close ties to the mayor. The $50,000 gift is Cheriogotis’ largest single contribution and one of 13 donations of $10,000 or more…
