Tsunami simulation at the University of South Alabama goes viral

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A clip from the University of South Alabama’s Summer Engineering Academy has gone viral on the social media platform TikTok.

Mobile County issues urgent pet adoption, foster request (over 80 animals need homes)

According to university administrators, rising 10th and 11th-graders who were attending the academy created homes out of popsicle sticks and hot glue. The homes were then placed into a wave basin, where a tsunami simulation was created to test the homes’ stability.

According to the university website, the wave basin used is the only one of its kind at any Alabama university.

“It resembles a miniature beach, with a large mechanical arm that generates artificial waves,” read the website. “Several types of waves can be simulated, including gentle Gulf waves, storm waves that erode beaches and cause dangerous rip currents, and tsunamis.”…
