Alabama port authority sues private developer over branding, name

Alabama’s agency that operates the Port of Mobile is suing a private developer currently working on a 12-million-square-foot project.

The agency claims the new Port Alabama Industrial Center is being marketed in ways that are “intentionally confusingly similar” to the Port of Mobile.

“Warehousing and distribution facilities are important economic drivers, and we want them to succeed,” said Maggie Oliver,“ a spokeswoman for the port authority. ”In this instance, we’re asking that one particular developer change the name of one project – which hasn’t even opened yet – to avoid brand confusion and clearly show that it isn’t affiliated with the Alabama Port Authority.”…
