Daphne hotel incident: Mother leaves kids unattended, gets arrested, police say

DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — A New Jersey woman accused of leaving her children in a Daphne hotel room while she went to Atlanta for the weekend has been arrested, according to police.

Two hurt in early morning shooting in downtown Mobile entertainment district

Hassanah Jabriah Smith, 33, allegedly left her two children, 5 and 14, in the room by themselves, News 5 has learned.

The 5-year-old, reportedly non-verbal and autistic, got out of the room and jumped into the hotel pool, but doesn’t know how to swim.

Daphne Police and the Department of Human Resources provided the kids with food for the weekend, according to officials.

Smith was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She is being held in the Daphne City Jail on a total $2,000 bond…
