Mobile bank robber sentenced to prison

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Moss Point man has been sentenced to prison time for a Mobile bank robbery that happened in March, according to the Department of Justice.

A DOJ news release said 68-year-old Joseph Derrick Nelson was sentenced to 37 months in prison.

Officials said Nelson entered a Family Security Credit Union branch wearing a disguise and handed a note to a teller demanding money.

The note said Nelson had a gun and explosives, leading the teller to put cash into an envelope and give it to him.

The DOJ said a witness followed Nelson on foot until he got into a vehicle, and then continued following him…
