2021 murder case against man accused of killing three-year-old in jeopardy

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — The capital murder case against Abraham Hatch for killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son Tyren Edwards is in legal jeopardy, according to Assistant District Attorney Ashley Rich.

According to court records, on August 15th Mobile County Circuit Judge Michael Windom ruled that statements made by the dead child’s brother, who was 6 at the time, to Mobile Police and DHR workers are inadmissible as hearsay.

In the denial order, Judge Windom states that he is not “reasonably satisfied” that the child’s statements meet the “particularized guarantees of trustworthiness” as required under Alabama law for hearsay evidence…
