MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — The Crescent Theater first opened its doors in 1885 as a vaudeville venue, then transitioned to silent films in 1912. In 1937, it became known as the Century Theater until closing in the 1970s. After a major renovation, the Crescent was revived in 2008, once again delighting Mobile audiences. Through the years, the theater has experienced multiple ownership changes and challenges, but its spirit has remained a steadfast part of downtown Mobile.
Now, under the direction of Buckhaults and Schayot, the Crescent is stepping into its next chapter. “We want to embrace the Crescent’s century-old tradition as a Mobile landmark while transforming it into a future-focused home for comedy, cinema, and the arts,” said co-owner Zeke Buckhaults. “This theater offers incredible acoustics and an intimate setting that makes laughter infectious—it’s the perfect venue for stand-up comedy and live entertainment.” Their vision is to establish the Crescent as an entertainment hub for the central Gulf Coast and ensure it thrives for generations to come…
