MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile City Council will discuss new requirements regarding properties that have been vacant for an extended time in downtown Mobile, according to a City of Mobile news release.

Council members will consider an ordinance that would require owners of those vacant properties to register them with the city, pay an annual registration fee and agree to maintain security and maintenance standards.
Included in that agreement would be securing all doors and windows, maintaining a monitored fire alarm system while ensuring access for first responders and maintaining adequate liability insurance.
