MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A jury deliberated for almost two hours Thursday before breaking for the evening in the federal wrongful-death civil trial of a Baldwin County sheriff’s deputy who fatally shot an unarmed man on Interstate 10.
At issue is whether Cpl. Matthew Hunady used excessive force when he fatally shot Jonathan Victor during a tense standoff following a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 in May 2017.
Lawyers for Hunady and the estate of the Louisiana man agreed on many of the basic facts – which were captured on dashcam and bodycam footage – but disagreed vehemently on the interpretation of those facts…
