32-million-year-old sea turtle fossil discovered in south Alabama

MOBILE, Ala.  (WKRG) — A fishing trip in south Alabama led to one of the most remarkable fossil finds in the world.

The Coleman family was out fishing north of Mobile in 2021 when they spotted something unusual and called Paleontologist Drew Gentry, the senior education and research manager at the Gulf Coast State Park Learning campus.

“Almost instantly, as soon as I saw what they had found, I knew that they had found something really remarkable,” said Gentry.
