Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputy cleared in wrongful death lawsuit

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been cleared in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by the family of a man fatally shot in 2017, News 5 has learned.

Matthew Hunady shot and killed Jonathan Victor on May 12, 2017, at the scene of a crash on Interstate 10.

Victor was “advancing” on officers with an object in his hand and refusing to obey the officers’ commands when Hunady shot him several times, according to past reporting.

An investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency cleared Hunady of any wrongdoing in the shooting, and then Victor’s family filed a civil suit for wrongful death against the deputy.

That case went to trial this week, and jury deliberations began Thursday afternoon…
