‘You just can’t leave somebody out there to die’: Foley woman looking for answers after hit and run

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — There is a driver somewhere out there who hit a Foley woman six weeks ago, and doesn’t know if that person is dead or alive. The victim of that hit-and-run did survive, and now she is looking for answers.

Just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6th, Ashley Funk was walking to a convenience store at the corner of County Road 65 and 26. She was waiting to cross the road, and that’s about all she remembers before waking up in the hospital.

“You just can’t leave somebody out there to die,” she said, but that’s exactly what happened six weeks ago.

“The last thing I remember is gravel pieces, like looking at the ground and seeing gravel, and then everything turned grey, and I woke up in the hospital. When I woke up, they told me I had been hit by a car. I didn’t realize that,” Funk said.

She spent almost a month in the hospital with a shattered elbow, crushed pelvis, and a collapsed lung, among other injuries…
