One charge dropped against former Bayou La Batre cop facing rape charges

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — The state has dropped one of four charges against accused rapist BJ Squires. Squires is a former Bayou La Batre cop who is charged with multiple sex crimes involving one victim who was between 12 and 16 year old. The state dropped the least serious sex abuse charge against him because they could not prove Squires was 19 years old when the allegation happened.

“His birthday is in the spring, and she (the victim) could identify a general period of time when this incident occurred, but not the exact date. And rather than move forward with the charge, we elected to nol pros it. And it was a misdemeanor charge,” said Mobile County Chief Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Susman.

Squires still faces rape 1st, rape 2nd, and sexual abuse by force charges. Rape 1st could carry a life sentence in prison. Susman believes there may be other victims, and she encourages them to come forward…
