Beware of MPD impersonation scam, Mobile police say

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Police Department officers are warning the public about a scam involving the impersonation of their department.

According to an MPD news release, the scammers are “spoofing” their phone numbers and are asking the people on the other end of the call to pay an outstanding fee.

But that’s not how the MPD operates, officials said.

“Please know our officers will never call you to collect any payment over the phone,” read the release…
