Irvington teen admitted killing grandmother but gave no explanation about why, detective testifies

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A grand jury will decide whether to indict an Irvington teenager in a murder case where much of the evidence comes from the defendant’s own mouth on a home surveillance video.

Prosecutors allege that Jailen Meyia Lupton, 18, beat her grandmother to death in July on Beverly Road in Irvington.

Sgt. Archie Niles Jr., an investigator with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, testified at a preliminary hearing that Lupton declined to speak with investigators following her arrest. But he said testimony from witnesses and video from a Ring camera at the home of victim Diane Trest’s neighbor indicate that Lupton admitted to killing her grandmother…
