Tornado blasts parts of south Alabama over the weekend

ELBERTA, Ala. (WKRG) — Cleanup continues later this morning after a tornado tears through the small Baldwin County town of Elberta. The storm hit the area at about 11 Sunday night.

A large piece of sheet metal, presumably from a barn roof sits in the middle of Woerner Road South. It’s the biggest piece of debris we’ve seen so far.

Most of the damage appears to be concentrated around County Road 87 and Woerner Road. We’ve seen small trees knocked over, large branches snapped to the ground and several pieces of sheet metal wrapped around wire fences. We also saw at least one barn or large storage shed that was smashed by the severe weather.

As far as we can tell Elberta still has power, but we could still hear at least one generator running in the pre-dawn darkness. We wait for sunrise to get a better idea of how much damage there is and what needs to be cleaned up and repaired…
