Stimpson was accompanied by his wife, Jean, whom he recognized during his remarks. He also praised his staff, city workers, and council members, and tasked them, as well as incoming Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, with maintaining the city’s momentum.
City Council members and other city leaders praised Stimpson for his 12 years in office. Gina Gregory has a unique perspective, having worked for Mayor Mike Dow and served on the council under Mayors Sam Jones and Stimpson.
“He is not afraid of a challenge and he is a man who sticks with it,” Gregory said. “He doesn’t rest until he gets done what he set out to accomplish. I think that’s a good way to describe Sandy. Besides the fact he is a gentleman, a true professional, and a terrific mayor. It’s been a great 12 years with him, we will miss him, but what he’s leaving behind puts us in a great position moving forward.”…
