MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Area Water and Sewer System is searching for Requests for Proposals from firms in hopes of moving forward with the recreational access plan for Big Creek Lake.

According to a MAWSS news release, the partner would manage and operate the concessions, which would include piers, a covered pavilion, shore fishing areas, restrooms and a boat rental facility.
MAWSS closed the lake for recreational activities earlier this year. Officials said that the reason for this was that boats could bring in invasive species that would threaten the drinking water supply.
“This RFP is an opportunity for an outside vendor to partner with us and deliver high-quality services that improve the overall experience for our community. Our plan – controlled recreational access that protects our drinking water quality and keeps costs low – will ensure the water safety the 350,000 residents we serve depend on while allowing for recreational uses that area residents enjoy,” said Bud McCrory, MAWSS director.

Once the plan is executed, the lake will be open recreationally five days per week…
