MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A chicken used to detect mosquito-borne illnesses in the area tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to the Mobile County Health Department.

The chicken’s coop is located in the 36544 ZIP code area. According to Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, laboratory results confirmed the diagnosis.
“WNV is present in our county,” Michaels said. “Taking personal protective measures is essential to prevent mosquito bites. I recommend using insect repellent, keeping screens on windows, and eliminating standing water or other conditions that attract mosquitoes.”…
