Mobile County Hosts Successful Perinatal Conference to Address Maternal and Infant Health

The second annual Perinatal Conference took place on November 7, 2025, at the DePaul Center of USA Health Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. Csierra Payne, RN, from the Alabama Department of Public Health, and Yvonne Baynard, RN, from the Mobile County Health Department, organized the event. More than 75 professionals and community leaders attended to discuss birth outcomes in Region IV.

Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, noted the conference’s focus on maternal and infant health, clinical quality improvement, and access to care. Attendees included nurses, physicians, social workers, and members of Case Review and Community Action Teams from several counties, including Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, and Washington.

The conference included presentations on topics such as sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy complications, substance use during pregnancy, and the role of doulas.
