‘It’s pretty horrific’ – judge sentences Mobile man whose abuse of toddler was caught on camera

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A man who admitted to striking a toddler and slamming him on a bed will go to prison for 18 months, a judge ruled Monday.

Christopher Tywon Beard, 33, of Mobile, pleaded guilty in September to aggravated abuse of a child younger than 6. Initially, prosecutors suggested Beard could face a sentence of 10 years to life in prison if they could demonstrate that he committed abuse on more than on occasion. But they ultimately did not allege an aggravating factor.

A home surveillance camera installed by the child’s mother captured the disturbing incident.

“It’s pretty horrific, and children are our treasure,” Mobile County Circuit Judge Ben Brooks said…
