Mobile volunteers answer Jamaica’s call for hurricane aid

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Volunteers at Christ United Church packed a U-Haul truck with essential supplies bound for Jamaica, where Hurricane Melissa left 45 people dead and 15 others missing.

Kerry Cohen, a Mobile woman born in Jamaica, organized the relief effort after seeing devastating videos from her birth country following the Category 5 storm that struck weeks ago.

“The videos that were coming out of Jamaica and the destruction was just heartbreaking, and as a Jamaican living here, even though I’m a citizen of the United States, that’s my birth country, and I just couldn’t sit and not do anything,” Cohen said…
