MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Thursday during its work session, Mobile County Commissioner’s voted to join in a lawsuit over Alabama’s Simplified Sellers Use Tax (SSUT) as a defendant.
The suit, originally filed by the City of Tuscaloosa, the Tuscaloosa City School District and the City of Mountain Brook is challenging the Alabama Department of Revenue’s implementation of the SSUT, or internet tax, as unconstitutional.
The SSUT was implemented in 2015 to answer the growing online shopping market that was not generating tax revenue.
