MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — With holidays just around the corner, cooking comes with an elevated chance for residential fires.

“This is the time of the year, around Thanksgiving, here in the U.S., we have the most fires, home fires, and kitchen fires,” Captain Dwight Smith with Mobile Fire Rescue said.

Captain Smith says the best way to keep you and your family safe is to keep an eye on your kitchen.

“Unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires and kitchen fires,” he began. “We just want to make sure that you practice staying in the kitchen when you’re cooking.”…
