MAWSS rejects lone bid for boat rental facility on Big Creek Lake

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile Area Water and Sewer System, which had hoped to award a contract for a boat rental facility on Big Creek Lake, rejected the lone bid it received Monday.

The utility hopes the boat rental facility will address complaints over its decision in February to shut off access to recreational boating in the lake amid environmental concerns. The bid from an applicant called Big Creek Landing Inc. proposed paying MAWSS 10 percent of gross revenues, but MAWSS said the bid requirements called for a specific monetary figure.

“It needed to be a dollar amount, and they also didn’t use the form that was provided by us,” MAWSS spokeswoman Monica Allen told FOX10 News. “So we’ll have to go to our legal department to get an opinion about various things.”…
