Charges against Eight Mile man dropped after witnesses – including Prichard cop – fail to show

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Byron Thomas appeared for his day in court this week, prepared to defend himself against charges that he pretended to be a police officer in 2022 and held a man in his vehicle while demanding money from his family.

But prosecution witnesses were no-shows, prompting Mobile County Circuit Judge Jay York to throw out the charges. Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood told FOX10 News that the case already had been reset multiple times.

“Witnesses who had been subpoenaed, notified of court dates, did not show again … law enforcement and non-law-enforcement witnesses,” he said…
